Why Homes Are the Original Architecture

Incredibly on-point essay by architect Duo Dickinson on the uniqueness of designing homes (not just houses). Most commercial spaces and buildings are designed to be a reflection of a particular business or brand, but as residential architects, we have the added facet of the lifestyle and personality of the clients themselves. To me, this is the most inspiring and rewarding aspect of what I do.

Creating a home is the most personal act that architects can be part of. But the challenge is that despite our training and skill we’re not the experts. Those who live in what we design know more than us about the manifestation of their hopes and dreams. We just have to listen well enough to lead. - Duo Dickinson
